…. I want to hear Music, Music, Music!
Ok, so my 4th or so foray into the blogosphere, will be dedicated to the beauty that is Sweet Soul Music.
And hopefully challenging your perspective of what “Sweet Soul Music” is.
It’s not just Aretha Franklin wailing, nor, for those who know me, The Supremes serenading some cause of love gone wrong.
It could be Blossom Dearie making fun of being hip, or Judy Garland singing “San Francisco” at Carnegie Hall…
Or me quoting the opening lyric to a Teresa Brewer song from 1950. Yeah, I’m gonna try to convince you mainstream early 1950s pop can be soulful.
Brenda Holloway once said that she loved Teresa Brewer… the *cry* (what I’d call the sandpaper) in her voice. You can’t get much more soul cred that the underground vixen of Motown’s heyday saying she idolized you…
Free your mind, and your heart and soul will follow….
